The Cardiologist Leading the Way Forward
Dr. Ayim Djamson, M.D., FACC
Principal Investigator & Board-Certified Cardiologist
Dr. Ayim Djamson is a board-certified cardiologist and the owner of Metropolitan Cardiovascular Consultants since 2004. His clinical leadership spans over 20 years, making him a respected name in cardiovascular medicine.
Dr. Djamson earned his medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School in 1991. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York in 1997, where he was named Chief Medical Resident. He went on to finish his Cardiology fellowship at the same institution in 2000. He has been board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine since 2001.
Areas of Focus:
Cardiology, cardiometabolic disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD), lipid disorders, heart failure, and hypertension research.
Current Focus (2024-2025):
Leading 10+ active trials including PREVENT-HF, VICTORION-PREVENT, and innovative Lipoprotein(a) studies across DMV metropolitan area locations.
Since 2005, he has served as Principal Investigator for over 50 Phase II through IV clinical trials. His work spans heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, chronic kidney disease, and lipid disorders. He previously served as Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Doctor’s Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland, from 2005 to 2007.

Our Two Decades of Research Journey
For over 15 years, our team has worked to advance cardiovascular research and improve patient care through heart disease trials.
2005 — Our Research Program Begins
Our clinical research program was established, launching our first studies focused on heart rhythm conditions. This marked the beginning of our commitment to advancing treatment options and improving cardiovascular care.
2007–2010 — Major Atrial Fibrillation Trials
We conducted the landmark ROCKET-AF study, contributing to important research on stroke prevention and helping advance treatment approaches for patients with atrial fibrillation.
2013–2019 — Diabetes & Cardiovascular Studies
Led multiple pivotal trials, including the DECLARE and CREDENCE studies, to advance treatment options for patients with diabetes.Â
2017–2021 — Heart Failure Research
We completed the EMPEROR-Reduced and EMPEROR-Preserved studies, contributing to major advances in heart failure treatment.
2024–Present — Cutting-Edge Hypertension Research
We are currently enrolling patients in ZENITH and other innovative trials evaluating investigational therapeutic approaches.Â
